Make your Magic Mouse oh-so-ergonomic with this pasty silicone grip

By Sean Hollister

While it’s hard to say if Apple’s Magic Mouse really needs “fixing” — it depends somewhat on your grip — it’s not a huge stretch to say that the slender multitouch device doesn’t quite fit in the palm of one’s hand. Sensing a market opportunity, Will of MMFixed.com recently decided to come to our collective rescue. For $10, he offers a simple silicone block that matches the mouse’s contoured surface nicely, with an integrated suction cup that keeps it securely fastened. While it’s not quite a one-size-fits-all solution, it’s certainly a lot cheaper than buying one of the new whacky, adjustable mice we’ve seen recently; and if the idea of ergonomics via marshmallow doesn’t appeal to you, you can always try the white bread variety. Video after the break.

Hardware Jailbreak Your iPhone Easily With The iDongle

Ever wanted to jailbreak your iPhone, but thought that fiddling with all that software felt like Voodoo magic? Well, with the iDongle, you won’t have to go through the tedious process of jailbreaking your iPhone. The device can jailbreak an iPhone, and more importantly, reboot a jailbroken iPhone on the go. The only downside of this device is that it currently only works on the iPhone 3GS running firmware 3.1.2, and iPod touch 2G/3G. There are only about a dozen or so of these devices available at the moment, but the developer is busy in the process of raising money to ramp up production. If you’re drooling over this at the moment, check out the video on it after the jump.

Crazy Foot Magic Cube

By Ubergizmo
Crazy Foot Magic Cube

The Rubik’s Cube was enough to drive some folks mad back in its day, but what about the Crazy Foot Magic Cube? Judging by its name alone, this unique puzzler requires your feet to solve it, since it it large and smooth enough to do so, testing your levels of endurance, IQ and EQ at the same time. Guess we now know what Hobbits love to do during their free time. We would say that if you suffer from a particularly bad case of smelly feet, it would be advisable to give the $17 Crazy Foot Magic Cube a pass.

Screen Grabs: the Marriage Ref trots out an iPad for all its 11 viewers

By Joseph L. Flatley
Critics may have called The Marriage Ref everything from “painfully bad” to an “ugly, unfunny, patronizing mess,” but how would we know? We couldn’t find an Engadget editor who would fess up to DVRing the thing. In fact, when we received these screen shots from an eagle-eyed reader, we had to Google it to find out what he was talking about! And here we have it: either this cookie sheet has Bluetooth, or this is an iPad complete with Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re switching back to the Lifetime network to see if we can spot ourselves a JooJoo.

[Thanks, Doug Warner]

Customer greeted with malware on Vodafone-issued HTC Magic (good thing it’s discontinued)

By Chris Ziegler

Crapware’s bad enough, but having your life torn asunder simply by plugging in that shiny new (insert USB-connected device here) is an exciting new trend — viruses find their way into the darnedest places, don’t they? It seems an employee at anti-malware firm Panda Research who’d ordered a new Magic off Vodafone UK’s site was greeted with no fewer than three nefarious executables upon plugging the device into her PC: a bot client, a password stealer, and a Conficker variant, and running a network sniffer quickly confirmed that the virii were live and ready to do harm as soon as the autorun in the Magic’s mounted mass storage was executed on her Windows machine. If this were a widespread issue, we’d certainly have heard about it in other places, so odds are good (as Panda points out) that this was simply a case of HTC or Vodafone doing an awful job of wiping a refurbished set — but it gives you pause and kind of makes you wish you worked for an anti-malware firm, at least on days when you’re plugging in a new phone for the first time. The silver lining, we suppose, is that Vodafone has recently discontinued the Magic, though that creates another problem: the only Android device it currently stocks now is the lowly Tattoo, so the X10 and Nexus One can’t come soon enough.

Vodafone bears blame for shipping Mariposa botnet malware on HTC Magic

By Ubergizmo

Vodafone bears blame for shipping Mariposa botnet malware on HTC Magic

Vodafone has stepped up to the plate and taken full responsibility for shipping the HTC Magic that came pre-loaded with unwanted guests – specifically the Mariposa botnet malware as well as other nasties. This was due to the cellphone carrier’s Spanish arm which supplied an HTC Magic smartphone that came with malware where it allows one to establish a backdoor for stealing information on connected computers throughout the synchronization process. Vodafone claims that this is an isolated and local problem, so don’t look at your HTC Magic in a funny way the next time you sync.

Pixel Qi DIY kits will be out in Q2, ’slightly more difficult than changing a lightbulb’

By Paul Miller

We’re going to assume that Mary Lou’s bravado-filled “It’s only slightly more difficult than changing a lightbulb” is in reference to working with OLPC. In fact, in Mary Lou Jepsen’s most recent Pixel Qi blog post she makes quick reference of the fact that there will be DIY kits for replacing your own laptop screen (most likely a 10-inch module) with the sunlight-friendly, switchable magic of Pixel Qi, but she spends the rest of the post talking about how in Nigeria some schoolgirls started up a laptop hospital where they’d repair their XOs by swapping out parts or reseating cables. We doubt most of our laptops will be so resilient when it comes to ripping off the bezel and swapping in the Pixel Qi part, but we’re dying to void our warranty and find out.

NVIDIA says Optimus ‘works perfectly’ with Intel Wireless Display

By Donald Melanson

Intel’s Wireless Display technology is undoubtedly impressive, but it does place a few specific requirements on the gear you’re able to use with it (mostly involving Intel hardware). As it happens, while Intel may not be talking it up (we can’t imagine why not), NVIDIA says that WiDi also ‘works perfectly’ with its Optimus discrete graphics technology. The two obviously weren’t designed to be compatible from the start, but NVIDIA says it “just works,” and doesn’t require any software or hardware changes. That’s apparently due to the unique way that Optimus interfaces with the integrated Intel graphics in a laptop, which effectively acts as a bridge between the WiDi system and the GPU, and makes it the only discrete GPU that will work with WiDi. Head on past the break to see the magic happen on video.

Use a Rock Band drum kit to play poker

By Doug Aamoth

Back in September, we learned how to use a Rock Band guitar controller to play poker. If you thought the magic would end there, buckle up. The man who brought you the previous how-to, Sean Lind, is back again and this time he’s using the Rock Band drum kit.
