Scaled Down Nexus One Heading To India?

This is still firmly in the rumor bin, but word is going around that Google is working on a scaled down version of its Android-powered Nexus One for new markets such as India. There isn’t any concrete info on this device just yet, but if it’s true, it might be slimmer than the Nexus One, and will sport a lower resolution camera and less internal storage space. Do you think that such a device could be introduced, or is this just smoke and mirrors at the moment?

Hardware Jailbreak Your iPhone Easily With The iDongle

Ever wanted to jailbreak your iPhone, but thought that fiddling with all that software felt like Voodoo magic? Well, with the iDongle, you won’t have to go through the tedious process of jailbreaking your iPhone. The device can jailbreak an iPhone, and more importantly, reboot a jailbroken iPhone on the go. The only downside of this device is that it currently only works on the iPhone 3GS running firmware 3.1.2, and iPod touch 2G/3G. There are only about a dozen or so of these devices available at the moment, but the developer is busy in the process of raising money to ramp up production. If you’re drooling over this at the moment, check out the video on it after the jump.

OnLive Game Service out this June 17

Mark June 17 on your calendars as that would be when the OnLive ’Games-on-Demand’ service powered by cloud-servers arrives. Steve Perlman and Mike McGarvey, founders of OnLive, has taken the opportunity to announce the subscription plans for the service for both PCs and Macs, albeit only for folks living in the US, with no word on availability and their respective subscription plans for the European region at the moment. What is OnLive? It is a ‘Games on Demand’ service powered by Cloud-servers and based on subscription model. The moment you access the huge library of games, you can play them instantly over the Internet without having to worry about system compatibility and going through the whole tedious installation process. With 720p HD quality video gaming, expect to spend more time cooped up at home now. For more context, check out our hands-on of the OnLive Game Service at last year’s GDC.

Unreal Engine 3 heading to webOS

Unreal Engine 3 heading to webOS

Looks like folks with the iPhone won’t be able to gloat over Palm owners anymore since the Unreal Engine 3 will be making its way to the webOS platform as well. While details are pretty scarce at the moment, Palm just announced a deal with Epic Games at the Games Developer Conference in San Francisco. We can’t wait to see the processors found within Palm’s range of devices to be put to good use with quality games. What are some of the titles running on this Unreal Engine that you would like to see realized?

Novothink rolls out Solar Surge iPhone / iPod touch charging case

By Donald Melanson
It’s not November ‘09 as originally promised, but Novothink has now announced that its Solar Surge charging cases for the iPhone and iPod touch are finally available. Those will run $79.95 for the iPhone 3G/3GS version and $69.95 for the iPod touch version (second gen only, it seems), which are each available only in black or white at the moment (additional colors are “coming soon), and should add between four and eight hours of talk time, or up to 20 hours of additional audio playback. That’s, of course, when the charger is fully charged, but Novothink says you can still expect to get between 30 and 60 minutes of talk time after two hours of exposure to direct sunlight.

Disney turns its Monorail into huge Tron light cycles

By Matt Burns

Tron Legacy is nerds wet dream come true. The movie will hopefully invoke the same sort of futuristic imagination as the original. You’ve watched the trailer, right? Well, anyway, to gear up for the premiere, Disney has skin a couple of its monorails to look like the light cycles. Kind of meta future meets future moment, eh?

Smartbook concept should be realized

Smartbook concept should be realized

This Smartbook does not describe a kind of consumer electronics device, but is a conceptual portable computer instead, where this smartphone can be flipped open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard which can be synchronized with its personalized PC tablet. Definitely something that we would like to see in the real world, but we guess it will remain nothing but a pipe dream at the moment. Since this is but a concept, we guess you can basically imagine it comes with the most drool-worthy of hardware specifications, but it will most probably run on the Android OS considering the Chrome browser is on display here.

Will The Horror Flicks Of The Future Call Your Cell Phone?

By Ubergizmo

Ever been in the movies to catch a horror flick, and halfway through the movie, in that moment of suspense, yell out “RUN!” or something similar? Obviously the person on screen couldn’t hear you (and as a result met a horrible end), but what if you could influence the person on screen? That’s what the folks behind Last Call are aiming to do with their interactive horror film. Audience members will be asked to supply their cell numbers before the movie, and at one point, a phone number is selected at random from the list, and will be called. Voice recognition software will then listen to the person’s commands and the story will unfold based on their instructions. Of course, instructions will most likely be the usual things like “run, stay, turn right” or something along those lines. Trying to get the character to tap dance or sing the national anthem probably won’t work. It’s a cool concept, and will be interesting to see how it’s implemented. What would happen if the person left his phone on silent, and didn’t pick up, though?

Motion-Sim 4DOF racing simulator

By Ubergizmo
Motion-Sim 4DOF racing simulator

Motion-Sim has rolled out its 4DOF racing simulator that offers pitch, roll, yaw and heave to what would deem to be perfection, coming with a harness of its own that will prevent you from flying ahead like a crash test dummy during the more intense in-game moments. Unfortunately, the 4DOF plays nice with PC sims only at the moment. This is definitely a rich man’s toy since the home version will retail for €18,450. Heck, at that price point, we might as well buy a real car, eh?

Boeing announces compact, energy-efficient 3D camera

By Donald Melanson

Yes, even the military has gone 3D. Helping it in that endeavor is Boeing, which has just announced a tiny new 3D camera that’s one-third the size and consumes one-tenth the power of comparable 3D imaging systems. While it will also be made available for commercial use, it seems like military will be first in line to use the cameras, with Boeing noting that it’s potential applications including “mapping terrain, tracking targets and seeing through foliage,” and adding that it’s already testing the camera on unmanned aerial vehicles. The biggest drawback to the camera at the moment is that it’s only able to take 3D still images, but Boeing says it will “soon” add 3D video capability as well. Details are otherwise pretty hard to come by, as you might expect, and pricing is no doubt best left unsaid.

[Thanks, Graham]

Verizon Rugged Casio Brigade C741 Is Currently Available

Verizon Rugged Casio Brigade C741 Is Currently Available

The Casio Brigade C741 was approved by the FCC a few months back, but surprisingly it seems that the phone has already been available in various Verizon retail stores without much fanfare. Some folks have already managed to purchase the device, and it also seems that it can be ordered via telesales. Apparently the Brigade C741 will be going for $249 after a $50 mail-in rebate, and will come with the customary (and mandatory) contract. It should begin to be sold nationwide from March 14th, which is just around the corner, so keep your eyes and ears open if this is the phone that you’re checking out at the moment.

Samsung E6 e-reader coming to Barnes and Noble this spring for $299

By Nilay Patel

Samsung still hasn’t committed to a formal launch date for the e-reader line it launched at CES, but the company narrowed down the launch date from “early 2010″ to “this spring” this morning — which makes sense, seeing as spring has nearly, uh, sprung. We’re only hearing about the six-inch E6 at the moment, along with a new Barnes and Noble partnership — we’re not sure anyone will pick the Samsung over the popular Nook, especially at the $399 price point we heard at CES, but at least there’s a built-in content ecosystem. Interestingly, we’re not hearing anything about the 10-inch E10 or QWERTY-equipped E61, both of which would fill large gaps in the B&N lineup, but we’re looking out for more info — we’ll let you know. In the meantime, you can watch a video of all three devices right here.

Update: Samsung says the E6 will be $299 at launch, which is a nice little drop. As for the E10 and E61, all we’re hearing is that they “may be coming soon,” so who knows what’s going on.
