Alcatel-Lucent New API Bundles for Developers

[SXSW] Alcatel-Lucent today announced the packaged API (Application Programming Interfaces) bundles, and an associated revenue sharing model that eliminates upfront costs for developers and offers new revenue streams for service providers. Additionally, a new business and application modeling tool has been released; it allows developers to get the most out of their applications, according to the company. I am not a developer and I have not seen the bundles or the tool, if you are a developer attending SXSW, go to the “Eleven API Lounge” of the Hilton Hotel, (directly across from the Austin Convention Center): Alcatel-Lucent will demo its new offering, which is part of its developer platform and program. Mozilla Is Testing Firefox Account Manager

Considering the open source nature of Firefox, it’s always fairly easy to guess and check out the new features that Mozilla is working on. Now it seems that Mozilla is planning a rather useful account manager, which should be especially helpful to users who are logged into many sites at once. Initially, the support should include sites such as Facebook, Google and Yahoo!, not to mention 3 other Mozilla sites (Addons, Personas, and Bugzilla). With this in place, you’ll notice a key icon on your Firefox toolbar, and when you click on it, you’ll be able to check out the variety of sites that you’re currently logged into, and disconnect from any of them. Looks like you won’t have much of an excuse to post something weird on your partner’s Facebook account anymore.

Junaio 2.0: Augmented Reality Browser

[SXSW] Juanio 2.0 is available now in the Apple App Store, the revamped version of the augmented reality browser offers new features such as indoor usage, a new channel concept, web- and user based information channels and an open API for developers. Since the first version launched in November 09 (read the article by Dana Oshiro on RWW), Junaio provides information on point-of-interests (see picture above) and the ability to add 3D animations and share the edited images via the usual social networking sites.

Bluetooth 4.0 has new features

As with any updated specification for a standard, Bluetooth 4.0 is no different as it sports a couple of notable improvements including the ability to be used in low-power devices such as watches and pedometers that are powered by coin-cell batteries. This is a definite step forward since its predecessors could only handle triple-A or larger-capacity batteries at best. Apart from that, Bluetooth 4.0 will adopt low-energy specification (Ble) for “the transmission of small bursts of data in addition to the high-speed data transfer capabilities introduced with Bluetooth 3.0 last April.” While most of the world is still rocking to Bluetooth 2.1, expect to see devices sporting the new Bluetooth 4.0 specification to hit the market by the end of this year.

TomTom for iPhone to get HD Traffic

TomTom recently submitted a new version of its iPhone GPS application under the version 1.3 banner to Apple for the fruity company’s nod of approval. If all goes well, this new app ought to be available for download within a couple of weeks’ time, and will also boast a bunch of new features including HD Traffic service as an in-app purchase. Great stuff if you’re always on the go and want to avoid traffic jams at all costs, but can’t afford a helicopter to get around those traffic-choked streets. While its pricing structure has yet to be confirmed, one could probably safely guess that it ought to be similar to what TomTom is currently offering at £8 monthly.

Palm’s webOS 1.4 update now available for Sprint, O2 and Movistar phones

No leaks or release date rumors this time, a mere 39MB download is all that separates your Sprint, O2 or Movistar connected Pre from video recording, Flash, enhanced message notifications and much-desired performance and battery life improvements. Verizon, Bell and Telcel customers are unfortunately still waiting for their day in the sun, only specified by the official Palm blog as “soon.” Check out Palm’s trailer for the new features and the full webOS 1.4 changelog after the break, after queueing up the download of course.

The Engadget Show tapes tomorrow… snow or shine! (plus livestreaming!)

Can’t wait for another Engadget Show to roll around? Well you’re in luck, friend. It’s happening tomorrow at 5:00pm ET. We’ll be doing giveaways at the show taping only, so brave the weather and join us in person for a chance to win great prizes!

Josh will be sitting down with Avner Ronen of Boxee to discuss the upcoming (and hotly anticipated) Boxee Box, as well as his strategy for taking on Big Television and their army of Jeff Zuckers.

Microsoft will also be on hand to demo Windows Phone 7 Series and the company’s own Aaron Woodman will be sharing stories about the major changes Redmond has made to the Windows mobile OS. Also expect an out-of-this-world performance from Nullsleep complete with stunning visuals from Outpt and Paris, as well as some other big surprises…

As you may have heard, livestreaming is back by popular demand, and we’re rolling out some cool new features! You will now be able to tweet your comments directly to the livestream! During the show, just include the hashtag “#engadgetshow” and look for your tweet to show up on the ticker at the bottom of the stream. One thing to note, The Engadget Show is a family program, so any single instance of swearing or trolling will force us to turn off the ticker… and it won’t come back on. So, keep it clean and have fun!

The Engadget Show is sponsored by Sprint, and will take place at the Times Center, part of The New York Times Building in the heart of New York City at 41st St. between 7th and 8th Avenues (see map after the break). • Ticketing will begin at the Times Center at 2:30PM on Saturday, doors will open for seating at 4:30PM, and the show begins at 5PM

• Seating capacity in the Times Center is about 340, and once we’re full, we’re full
• The venue is located at 41st St. between 7th and 8th Avenues in New York City (map after the break)
• The show length is around an hour

We don’t want anyone standing around in the snow, and it’s likely that not everyone who was going to come will be able to make it, so we should be able to accommodate everyone that does show up.

Ford adding HOV logic, ability to download outside Mapquest destinations to 2011 NAV systems

Ford’s been keeping itself busy on the navigation front, and while you may have noticed that 2010 just began a few weeks ago (on the Gregorian calendar, anyway), 2011 model year vehicles are already on the minds of those in Dearborn. 2011 models with voice-activated navigation systems will be getting an update that brings along HOV logic, helping users who travel with a buddy to get from point A to point B more hastily if carpool lanes are nearby. Of course, only 2,500 miles of those blanket America, so a few other updates might be intriguing to those of you who are sane enough to live outside of the rat race. Branded POI icons, higher density street labeling and HD Radio will come standard on voice-controlled NAV systems, and potentially most interesting is the notion that “integration with SYNC Traffic, Directions and Information (TDI) app — enabling new features like the ability to download destinations sent from a home or work computer from Mapquest” — will hit later on in the year. Samsung keeps the mini-camcorder war rolling, announces two new models

In addition to the cameras we told you about earlier today, Samsung also announced two new mini-camcorders. Expanding on their existing line, the new Samsung models pretty much just bring the specs up to the next level and add a few new features. When Samsung brought their first mini-camcorder onto the market, no one really noticed. The market was dominated by Flip, and besides that, Samsung didn’t really bring anything new to the table. That’s not the case this time around.

T-Mobile gives an HTC HD2 reminder, now with more fun!

Last week, T-Mobile teased us all with a little jab on Twitter about the HTC HD2 that it will be shipping soon. It was exciting and, to be frank, it made me a little antsy. As promised, T-Mobile announced new features for the HD2 at Mobile World Congress today and I’ve gotta say, it isn’t all that thrilling.

Apple launches Aperture 3 – retails at $199, upgrades for $99

It’s been almost 2 years to the day when Apple released Aperture 2.0, and this morning the company announced that the third iteration of the photo editing and management software is available. Some of the new features include Faces, Places and Brushes, many of which will be familiar to people using iPhoto ‘09.

With the new version, Apple makes it easier for people to step up from iPhoto to Aperture, while still providing professional photographers with a powerful program for editing and managing their libraries. Apple says the new software boasts over 200 new features.
