Pixel Qi dual-mode displays sell out, in a good way

By Dan A.

Unless you’re in the music biz, selling out is generally considered a good thing just as long as you can restock, pronto like, to meet consumer demand. So we’re sure Mary Lou Jepsen is roiling in her jollies knowing that the first batch of $275 dual-m…

Twitter for iPhone now ready for iOS 4 multitasking

By Dan A.

The official Twitter app is keeping up with the times by rolling out iOS 4 support in its latest build. With the program now able to run in the background, you’ll finally be able to send tweets while switching in and out of other applications. It also means you won’t have to relaunch the app every time you want to check up on the latest happenings, it’ll just keep your place like a good and loyal piece of software. Retina Display-friendly graphics are also part of the new package, along with “more secure” tweeting, if you ever felt insecure about the integrity of you shorthand missives. All it’s missing now are the millions of “sent from my iPhone 4″ messages, a gap we’re sure you’ll be filling pronto.

Sony PSN down

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) seems to be down and out for the moment, and Sony is aware of the problem just in case you were wondering whether the folks there were sitting on their rear ends doing nothing about the situation. Game-crashing errors seem to spread among the PS3-owning community, and most of it is attributed to a 8001050F error code. Among the unfortunate drawbacks would be corrupted trophy information and an inability to access the PSN. Hopefully Sony will be able to do something about this, and pronto!

Dell's Broadcom Crystal HD Mini 10 now shipping to beta Flashers worldwide

Dell’s refresh of the Mini 10 didn’t exactly knock our socks off when we got a chance to spend some quality time with it last month, but it did prove to be a solid performer and did as advertised, playing back 1080p content with aplomb — so long as you did it within a player that could make the most of a Broadcom’s Crystal HD accelerator. Now you have a chance to try it out for yourself, with Dell announcing the machine is shipping and, at $409 with a six-cell battery and a 250GB hard drive, it won’t break the bank either. Just steer clear of Quicktime for movie playback and get the most recent Flash beta on there pronto, yeah?

Peek Pronto with lifetime service: $299

By Dan A.

Peek — the handheld, bare bones email device which recently celebrated its first birthday — has just launched a deal that’s actually quite a deal. You can now get a Peek Pronto (the latest model) with lifetime service for $299. The Amazon exclusive includes all Peek’s standard subscription features — up to five email accounts with unlimited Push emailing, plus extras like its Twitter and Facebook feeds, — only this time, it’s forever. The deal will cover any future device upgrade you might make, too. If you or anyone you know were ever on the fence about buying one of these badboys, now is probably the time.

Peek manages to survive a whole year, promises more features for year two

By Dan A.

We actually first caught wind of the Peek email-only handheld around 13 months ago, but today Peek is celebrating its first year as a company with a shipping product. During the past year, it has managed to ship two distinct devices and a good bit of functionality, but most importantly, it has managed to survive. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but the past dozen months have been twelve of the most tumultuous (financially, anyway) in American history, yet this startup is still going strong and looking forward to a second year full of “new features and services” and even a few international launches. Generally we don’t stop to wish companies a happy first birthday, but seriously — how many of you expected this firm to be around in late 2009?
