Nesbot autonomous coffee maker robot

There is nothing quite like having that perfect cuppa, but humans aren’t that consistent when it comes to brewing the right cup unless you make it yourself. Well, Bluebotics decided that a robot is much more consistent, coming up with the autonomous coffee maker robot known as the Nesbot. Specially commissioned by Nestlé Nespresso, the robot will receive orders via a simple GUI through a web browser, or you can also use the pocket computer that is mounted on the robot itself. Various coffee blend “capsules” and the management of cups and trays are completely automated, so you have nothing to worry about. Apart from coffee, it can also deliver a range of confections and beverages such as Nestlé chocolate bars. Boss, when are you getting one of these in the office?

Apple looks into multi-haptic technology

Apple’s iPhone has certainly been a game changer ever since its first iteration was rolled out, and the fruity company is not going to rest on its laurels that easily. In fact, Apple is currently working on a new Multi-Haptics technology of their own, and if the team has shown the same dedication as with their multi-touch interface which took years to seemingly perfect, then the gadget world can definitely look forward to the final result. This technology was described in a patent application to be known as “Multi Touch with Multi Haptics”, which was filed by Apple in April last year. The whole idea behind this is to spread an array of haptic actuators around the touch panel and device housing, where a database of haptic response profiles can be matched to different multi-touch gestures performed on the display. Will we see Multi-Haptic technology hit the market in the next iPhone or iPad?

Nexus One turned into race car controller

The Nexus One is not just a superphone according to Google, but Grant Skinner managed to take his Nexus One and turn it into an impromptu controller for small race cars. Cars are controlled thanks to the use of its accelerometer which will control the car’s acceleration at a predetermined speed simply by tilting it at varying degrees. In a nutshell, the generic mobile client will hook up over the LAN to the desktop application, where the latter will send it a “surface” SWF that holds all of the graphics and logic for the interaction which in turn allows the host to dictate the experience. The mobile client will be able to send accelerometer data to the host that interprets the data, relaying commands in return to update the client UI. Interesting, this hack. What other innovative uses of the Nexus One or other Android-powered phones that you can think of?

The SkypeKit was also designed to play nice with a wide variety of chipsets, operating systems, and audio/video devices. It is more or less a “headless” version of Skype, running in the background without any user display, which in turn offers developers the chance to deliver Skype functionality through their own products’ interfaces. Just what kind of devices would you like to see Skype integrated within?
