Happy Hour timepiece: Because it’s always happy hour somewhere

By John Biggs

You say that alcohol is your only friend? And you need a nice watch to wear while drinking it? The Happy Hour Timepiece is for you. While the watch itself is pretty standard – a quartz analog movement next to a Chinese LCD movement in a rectangular case – the buckle of the strap holds [...]

Happy Hour watches open bottles, doors unto new worlds (video)

By Vladislav Savov

Ready for your daily dose of ingeniousness? That word is actually real, and so is the Happy Hour Timepiece — a watch that doubles as a bottle opener, because as the tagline reminds us, “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.” It has just become available to buy from Time Tap’s website, and its black leather-strapped awesomeness can be yours for $49.95. Click past the break to see video of it being demonstrated as well as a shot of the watch face itself — it even has dual digital and analog time displays, so much value!

Happy Hour Watch Helps You Open Beer Bottles

Happy Hour Watch Helps You Open Beer Bottles

After getting off work, what most people would like to do nowadays is to go for their ‘happy hour’, wherever it may be. If your way of relaxing is having a couple of beers with your mates, then the Happy Hour Watch might come in handy, as it’s certainly geared towards that. Aside from telling the time, the most useful feature of this watch will have to be its bottle-opening buckle, which should help remove the annoyance that keeps your lips away from your favorite beverage. Just to spice things up a little, the watch face only has one hour marker, and if you guessed that it’s at the 5-O’clock mark, you’re right! It’ll set you back $49.95 though, so the choice is yours.

By Scott Merrill

200 students surveyed in a Stanford study were found to be “addicted” to their iPhones. “When asked to rank their dependence on the iPhone on a scale of one to five – five being addicted and one being not at all addicted – 10 percent of the students acknowledged full addiction to the device, 34 percent ranked themselves as a four on the scale, and only 6 percent said they weren’t addicted at all.”

Smallville can’t be allowed to break Stargate SG-1’s world record

By Matt Burns

We MUST stop this. Somehow Smallville must be canceled before it surpasses Stargate SG-1 and becomes the longest running Sci-fi show in North America’s history.

By Dave Freeman

Short version: The Core Light Black is a multifunction timepiece designed by Suunto, a Finnish company. The Core Light Black combines a timepiece with a altimeter, barometer, compass, and thermometer into one small package. While it is a large watch, the functionality it brings makes it an ideal piece for the outdoor enthusiast.

4N wristwatch delivers digital time in a mechanical fashion

By Vladislav Savov

Given how simple we’ve made timekeeping over the years, it was inevitable that luxury watches would have to move into more esoteric lands in order to exude the appropriate sense of wonder when witnessed by those who can’t afford them. You might call that the Xperia Pureness effect. Ergo, quite aside from its platinum or 18-carat gold construction options, the 4N watch tries to grab the spotlight with its quirky disc-based mechanism, which rotates numbers (four numbers, hence 4N) into position to display a digital readout of the time. The fact that all three discs — built out of aluminum or a titanium alloy — and the MVT01 movement are exposed to the eye earns geek cred from us, while the limited run of only 16 units should ensure the desired exclusivity for the watches’ future owners. As the old saying about price goes, if you have to ask, you can’t afford one.

Watch out, Flip, because here’s one tough guy that you don’t wanna mess with. Joining Aiptek’s family of pocket camcorders is the PocketCinema Z20 — a fine mix of 720p camera (courtesy of a 5 megapixel sensor) and pico projector of an unknown resolution, powered by a two-hour battery (which we’ll believe when we see it). Want it? You can pre-order now for €349 or about $476 ahead of its mid-April launch. Meanwhile, enjoy Aiptek’s cheesy promotion video after the break.

What can you do to make the tourbillon even more precious? How about you skeletonize it until it is completely hidden in the bezel? Tokyoflash E-paper Timing Watch

By Ubergizmo

Tokyoflash E-paper Timing Watch

Tokyoflash, certainly no stranger to weird and innovative watch designs, has come up with a new concept watch design that uses e-paper to show the time digitally in negative spcace (so you can see the time by looking for the digital numbers between the dark dots). Since it also sports Bluetooth connectivity, it can also vibrate to notify you of messages and call notifications. You’ll be able to control the device via the buttons that are positioned at the bottom of the strap, which also give this watch a slim bracelet design. Would you go for a watch like this, or do you prefer something more traditional?
