Microsoft emphasizes Xbox Live Arcade compatibility in Windows Phone 7

Back around when Windows Phone 7 was announced, Microsoft was eager to demonstrate the 3D gaming prowess of the OS and its intended hardware. We were disappointed at the time that these games wouldn’t be coming to the totally-capable Zune HD, but we also saw a glimmer of hope that there would be some overlap between XBLA and these Live-enabled handsets.
Fast forward a few months, and we have confirmation that Microsoft is almost as excited about this possibility as we are. Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, Oded Ran, had this to say…

The 3DS’ semi-secret weapon: 3Difying the back catalog

When the 3DS was announced, Nintendo did it alongside a ridiculous amount of fan service. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been hoping for a new Kid Icarus game for almost my entire life. Along with remakes or reduxes of classics like Ocarina of Time, StarFox, Paper Mario, there were a number of 3rd-party [...]

Fedor’s Strikeforce fight tonight has Internet pay-per-view choose-your-own-camera-angle feature

Strikeforce, the mixed martial arts promotion that’s the focus of the upcoming EA Sports MMA video game, has an event tonight headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum. Normally I wouldn’t mention that here on CG, but there’s a fairly neat tech angle that’s worth mentioning. Not only is there an Internet pay-per-view option at $24.95 (the event otherwise airs on Showtime here in the U.S.), which, in and of itself isn’t exactly breaking news (WWE, the world’s most technophobic company, has been running Internet pay-per-views for some time now, and even smaller promotions like Ring of Honor have jumped aboard the iPPV bandwagon), but there’s a clever “choose you own camera angle” gimmick that may interest you.

Hey, Sirius XM: Can you get your act together and fix your online stream? That would be neat.

Here’s a “shout out” to the fine people at Sirius XM. You pay for a service with the expectation that it, you know, occasionally works as advertised, right? Not Sirius XM, the company that’s fine with people overworking for years so long as they don’t ask for a marginal(in the grand scheme of Howard Stern and Oprah and MLB contracts) raise! How many times per week does the online stream die? I’m thinking at least three to five times.

It’s time to settle lawsuits and chew bubble gum – and I’m all out of bubble gum

Duke Nukem Forever, a title subject to more delays, controversies, and lawsuits than Rockstar’s notorious Grand Theft Baby, may finally see a release. Well, there’s actually no reason to think that will happen, except that now there’s nothing actively preventing its release — except, of course, the fact that the game was never finished. The [...]

FIFA Soccer 11, Pro Evolution Soccer 11 first details

Both EA and Konami have revealed details regarding the next FIFA, called FIFA Soccer 10 in the U.S., and Pro Evolution Soccer, called Pro Evolution Soccer 11, games, respectively. The first detail: they exist. There was approximately a zero percent chance that EA and Konami wouldn’t continue with the franchises, but you and I know that big corporations make terrible decisions all the time. EA’s big new feature is called Personality+, and it aims to make each player in the game as much like the player in real life. That is, Messi should be able to waltz pass defenders in-game as he does for Barcelona week in, week out, while Michael Carrick should be able to complete one pass in 50 as he does for Manchester United. (Exaggerated for effect. folks, so calm down.)

With WWDC just around the corner, it was only a matter of time before a few more details leaked out about the event. Steve Jobs recently mentioned at All Things D that come Monday we wouldn’t be left disappointed, even after the new iPhone had been leaked into the wild. Something exciting is still up Steve’s sleeve but is it Safari 5?

Mysterious “Freeman” picture tickles Half-Life fans’ Valve-strings

As we all know, Valve is going to be making a big announcement on the 14th. We’ll be there. Everyone expects it to be Portal 2, but recent teasing from Valve (Aperture Science issued a memo announcing the “Gala Cancellation” of Portal 2) suggests something even more serious is afoot. I just saw this image on Reddit; no one can vouch for its authenticity, but it goes along with my suspicions — namely, that Portal 2 and Half-Life: Episode 3 are one and the same.

He was there with his father, William Henry Gates, Sr., and they talked about a number of fun and exciting things. And wouldn’t you know it, the iPad was one of those things. His take on Apple’s “magical and revolutionary” thingamajig? It’s “not quite there yet.” That’s fair to say, no?
