Devon Works Tread 1 belt-driven, bulletproof wristwatch tested, proven to actually tell time (video)

The last time we saw the Devon Works Tread 1 wristwatch it existed only in digital form, rendered and swirling about with respect neither mass nor volume. Now it has come to reside inside the physical plane, and aBlogtoRead has managed to get one of its belt-driven manifestations to check out. Naturally it\'s somewhat less ...

Thanko has given us much joy over time, from e-cigarettes to necktie / spy cameras. But the Bluetooth Headset Wristwatch? Bluetooth wristwatch with detachable LCD (which doubles as headset)

Not everything Tokyo-based crap gadget maker Thanko churns out is necessarily silly or utterly useless. The infamous company is now offering a Bluetooth wristwatch [JP] with a pretty clever concept: it allows you to detach the device’s LCD and use it as a wireless headset, for example in case you want to make calls or ...

The Top 10 Swatch Watches
In honor of the passing of Nicolas Hayek, CEO of the Swatch Group, we decided to wax a little nostalgic about his most breathtaking – and lucrative – product: the Swatch watch.
Swatch was the brainchild of Elmar Mock and Jacques Müller in an attempt to make the thinnest wristwatch in the world. Instead, they created [...]

Mixtape watch keeps track of time, reminds you of that one road trip and that sweet mix you made that everybody totally liked and you played it like 30 times

If you’re a nostalgic person, and you enjoy novelty watches, I can only imagine the levels of joy you’re feeling right now. This Mixtape watch from EOS features not only the classic cassette tape look, but the classic mixtape motion. The tape dials actually spin, which I suppose reduces battery life — but so what?!

Steampunk Arduino Watch tells time, plays Breakout, thrills the world

We’ve seen no shortage of homegrown watches in our lifetime, and the quantity of Arduino-based gadgetry that graces the web each day might just outnumber the quantity of humans incensed by BP right now. But so far as we can tell, this is the first instance we’ve seen of the two combining in holy matrimony. The delicately crafted Arduino Watch: Steampunk Edition actually lives up to its name, providing augmented sensing of temperature and range, a 16-bit color drawing program, Breakout game and the ability to display time in digital, analog or binary. Best of all, the creator asserts that various other sensors and programs can be added on a whim, which is something your $4,000 Sea-dweller most certainly cannot say for itself. Speaking of cost, we’re told that the whole shebang can be crafted for around $250, but considering that you’ll be a local hero should you actually duplicate the effort here, you owe it to yourself to give those source links a long, hard look.

Concept: Dew 3D Projection Wrist Communicator

It would be nice if all our gadgets would have 3D projection capabilities, right? While that might not be the case just yet, there’s nothing stopping designers from coming up with designs to prepare for the day when such technology becomes mainstream. Next up is a concept design dubbed Dew, a device that uses a wristwatch design, and can project objects in a 3D hologram mode, notifying you of new mail, upcoming meetings, read emails, you name it. if this were turned into a real device, we could probably stop drooling over Rolex watches and start salivating over this.

GPS 800G watch phone gets the job done (and little else)

Watch phones clearly haven’t hit the mainstream yet, though a resurgence of Dick Tracy may very well turn that around. Given that we’re probably years, if not centuries, away from that happening, it’s up to niche import shops like Alibaba to bring us goods like these. The GPS 800G — delivered by none other than Shanghai Zhiyuan Vacuum Electric Company, of course — manages to handle time telling, texting, GPS routing and even emergency calling. Oh, and normal calling as well. Looks as if you’ll need to ping the supplier in order to get a lock on pricing, but we can’t say with a straight face that it’ll be worth your while.

Good idea: try on virtual watches using augmented reality app

There are a lot of augmented reality apps out there, some even worthwhile. Not all, however, are this practical. When you’re shopping for a new watch (which people do, I understand), it’s not always easy to tell how it’s going to look on your own wrist. How big is it, exactly? Does the face look cool upside-down? Will that silver color clash with the blue of my veins? Important questions all. Don’t worry, though. Tissot has your back with this new augmented reality app.
Hmm. I wish I could tell you a little more about how well this app works, but I haven’t had a printer for like five years, and so cannot print out the little paper watch you need in order to interact with the app. Wait, maybe if I….

Review: Cadence Wrist Rocket digital sports watch

The Cadence Wrist Rocket is a digital sports watch, with a bit of a twist on the standard square design. It’s everything you expect in a sports watch; it’s water resistant, has a stopwatch, countdown timer, an alarm, and a resin body and strap. It’s quite a large watch, but that’s not really a bad thing because that makes the display easy to read.

We’re having a disagreement. I think this watch is awesome in its symmetry and simultaneous yet paradoxical over-stimulation and use of blank space. John and Dave, the self-styled watch guys here, think it’s butt-ugly.
